Two new spacedogs are let off the leash and start their mission on the spaceship

After sniffing the spaceship for a few weeks, the two newest additions have now taken the scent and are really taking off. Who they are, what drives them and how they got to Laika, you will find out in this new blogpost.

Introducing New Crew Member and Space Dog Julien:

Hi,

My name is Julien. I’m 24,  currently studying at the University of Amsterdam, and I’m from the picturesque city of Heidelberg. Growing up there, I had many friends who were aeronautic enthusiasts. However, I was always passionate about media. Academically speaking,  the field of public relations intrigued me. So, I decided to apply for an internship at Laika. Throughout the entire application process, the team seemed very enthusiastic and open-minded, which definitely motivated me. In my opinion, Laika clients are adventurous and innovative. Therefore, it feels good doing my part in helping the crew be successful. Moreover, I find Laika's commitment to building a place where people work in a way that does not consume them relatable. Finally, I was encouraged by the University of Amsterdam to write my master’s thesis about the Germanwings’s crisis communication regarding the 2015 crash, which I will work on and finish for July.

Because this is my first internship, I’m excited about the experience that awaits me. However, judging from the first week, the team spirit here is awesome. In addition, I appreciate the shared democratic values when it comes to decision-making. Even though I just joined, I sense that my opinion matters. So the start was very nice. Overall, I’m looking forward to enjoying the space dog atmosphere at Laika.

Last but not least, in my spare time I keep busy with a bunch of activities: I enjoy playing sports. I’m currently trying out tennis. Moreover, I like to read. Lastly, I enjoy dancing and listening to music.

That's one small step for dog, one giant leap for spacedogs. Say welcome to Michael

Hey everyone,

I’m Michael and joined the space crew as a working student to start my journey through the Laikaverse. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in transportation and logistics and started a master's degree in traffic planning last fall. Originally from Hamburg, I was drawn to Berlin after living in various cities in Germany, including studying for a couple of years in a small town in Lower Saxony. The decisive reason was landing a job in Berlin, coupled  with the longing for the big city life.

During these past last years, I worked for a cargo bike manufacturer, where I had my first contact with the Laika spaceship as they supported us with PR. Making mobility and logistics sustainable is something that has inspired and driven me, both in my studies and in my working life. Here at Laika, I get the opportunity to combine my passion for writing with my knowledge of the mobility and logistics sector. Laika's focus on working with sustainable and forward-thinking companies is something I can identify with. I think that communication has a huge impact on that topic.

The space crew gave me a very pleasant rocket-launch start, and I already feel like an integral part of the team. I’m really looking forward to getting to know PR in all its facets, and of course, to all our team events together. It feels great to be here!

Oh, and when I'm not on the spaceship, you'll probably find me either on my racing bike, in the bouldering hall, lying in the park with a book, or exploring the bars and lakes of the city.
