Veronica’s over the moon to join the Space Dogs on their cosmic mission
I was afraid to enter the spaceship. Kamal’s face had transformed into a grotesque sight with one pupilless eye, face bloody and peeling, and he was blocking the entrance. Tauntingly, he beckoned with a creepy voice, “Come in. Come in. Come in.” My wild imagination on overdrive—I had to keep on repeating to myself, “It’s not real. It’s not real. It’s just a costume!” I bravely pushed past Kamal’s unbelievably freaky character, into Laika’s office (aka the spaceship) where the Halloween party was in full swing, and thought, “Dang… these Laika peeps are quite creative and inventive!” In that moment, I felt kind of honored to be among such an imaginative crew (who took their holiday parties very seriously).
I “Laika” Laika
The Space Dogs are a lovely, ambitious, intelligent, kind, and amiable crew. I "Laika" Laika! Full-heartedly! Hence, when I—the freelance consultant (among other things)—was offered the opportunity to support the space crew with their marketing endeavors on a more substantial basis, I did not hesitate to pack my bags, don my space suit, and join the Laika spaceship as it explores the comms cosmos and communicates tomorrow.
Reporting for duty
My assignment is clear, to take on the role of Interim Head of Marketing. To accomplish this mission I have to utilize much of my experience, know-how and skills. From my communications and design education background, to my writing, marketing and leadership experience—I'm excited about utilizing my wide array of amassed tools from my space toolkit.
Over the years, I've had the privilege to work with some wonderful and beautiful minds. Consequently, I've learned that what really matters—among other things—is leading with integrity and values, being purposeful, remaining curious, while being mindful with our words and actions. I have much respect for Laika, as I feel they're continually working hard to embody these principles. I look forward to supporting Laika's marketing efforts within that framework, as well as championing the use of storytelling as a means of creating connection with our clients and community (aka quest partners and fellow explorers).
It’s all connected
My personal mission is to create and support stories and projects that incite curiosity, communication, compassion, connection, and creativity. In parallel to supporting Laika's crew with their creative comms endeavors, I'm Head UnMaker at Unmaking Boxes, where I encourage all to unmake their boxes and create their own adventure. In addition, I am methodically forging ahead on the completion of my middle-grade fantasy trilogy.
All this to say, I believe it's all connected... supporting Laika with their marketing, my writing, unmaking boxes... It's about making a meaningful impact in this universe, making it a little better—one small step at a time. Idealistic? Perhaps? But shooting for the stars—and imagining a future that does not yet exist—has propelled us forward throughout the millennia.
So here's to the start of a brand-new year—supporting the Laika Space Dogs, as we soar fearlessly through the comms cosmos. Keyword being fearless. I'm no longer afraid (even of grotesquely peeling faces and creepy voices). There's no limit to how far we can go, and how creative we can get.
