The top 10 German fintech & insurtech outlets

Once there was a hype called fintech which has become  bigger and bigger until it has become an industry. And there is no end in sight. Now there is not only fintech but insurtech as well. The industry as a whole raised almost EUR 2.1 billion in the first half of 2021 - significantly more than in previous years. Even though neobanks, payment providers, open banking specialists and insurtechs are changing finance business completely, they seem hard to grasp in the news. Where to follow the latest developments and the scene? Which outlets are out there covering the latest news, make you understand and bring you background stories? Easy. Here is our list of the top German fintech and insurtech outlets. Of course in a fair alphabetical order.

AssCompact

We start deep down in the niche. AssCompact is also still appearing as a monthly outlet for decision makers in the financial and insurance sector. They have a strong focus on risk management, which automatically leads to a lot of coverage on regtechs and insurtechs. You won't find news on your classical B2C product but the very nerdy stuff. For hotblooded lovers of the new industry.

Business Insider

While the German version of this internationally renowned business magazine isn’t as prestigious as its American older sister yet, it has to be dropped here as it covers the fintech scene not only frequently but in depth. This might have to do with Solveig Rathenow, Head of the Business Department as she has worked in the Fintech sector before she started at Business Insider.

Finance FWD

Finance Forward is the magazine for the new world of finance and insurance. Once a day news, analyses, portraits and interviews are delivered. Furthermore, they have a podcast every Wednesday in which Caspar Schlenk and John Hunter talk to a person from the world of finance and insurance about the latest developments and his or her story. Finance Forward is a cooperation between the business magazine Capital and the media and event platform OMR.

Finanzszene

Heinz-Roger Dohms and Christian Kirchner like to kick-off stories and they day. Their newsletter arrives around 6 in the morning on four days a week. Finanzszene not only covers the latest news but analyzes the latest developments and gives opinions on it.

Capital and Online Marketing Rockstars (OMR) who are behind Finance FWD acquired a stake in Finanz-Szene. They become a minority shareholder there which will let us assume that there will be more to come. These guys never sleep.

Finletter

Once a week, the finletter flies into your mailbox. In addition to industry news, you can also expect interesting background information, exciting interviews and suggested dates. Beside their own articles, they wrap up the most important articles from major outlets on fintechs of the week. The fintech experts Claas and Caro Beese not only started their publication together, but also run the Fintech Week once a year.

Finanz Business

A bunch of experienced journalists cover all categories of the financial world. In comparison to other outlets dealing with the world of finance they have an extra category covering the latest news and developments from the fintech world. News for you right out of Germany’s financial capital Frankfurt.

Geldinstitute & vb Versicherungsbetriebe

The two outlets with the most German names on the list address the problems faced by IT decision-makers in financial and insurance institutions, offer solutions and serve as a bridge from the developers to the user. And you can clearly devide between the outlet that has a focus on fintech and the one on insurtechs. Both are run by AV-Finance, a special interest outlet. As there is growing number of B2B fintechs, there is more and more to cover for the team. They talk about state of the art technology and upcoming trends focussing on an expert audience.

Handelsblatt Fintech Newsfeed

Even the biggest German Business newspaper makers made the decision to have no fintech section, they have got a small but nice newsfeed covering the latest news on developments in the fintech sector. We are curious when they will have their own section.

IT Finanzmagazin

IT Finanzmagazin is the technical news magazine for banks, insurers and fin- & insurtechs. They report on future topics in the financial and insurance industry - technical solutions for institutions and providers, digitization projects and ideas for digital products. Furthermore they try to make sure that their readers can follow everything within the sector and have special explanation articles on trending topics.

Payment & Banking

Payment & Banking is a platform by not only journalists but founders, experts, investors and consultants that not only run an outlet but a podcast and events. It is a website for people from the industry and professionals but also for newbies, rookies and those who want to become experts. And we want to point out that it is the only outlet in this list that presents women from the fintech scene frequently to push gender equality more forward.

We hope to give a first glance into the fintech and insurtech outlets in Germany. If you want to know more about our fintech clients, feel free to check out our case studies on Orderbird and Tink ... and there are more to come for sure!
