Mona's Galactic Voyage: Landing an Internship at Laika
By Mona Trautmann
If my 12-year-old self could see me now, she would be absolutely thrilled: Wait, I'm working in Berlin, at a gorgeous agency with the best colleagues, collecting memories every week that I will cherish for a long time?
The first time I visited Berlin, I instantly fell in love with the city’s charm. For me, it was clear: This is where I want to live someday. So when my practical semester was on the horizon, I thought it was well worth a shot. I'm currently studying Media Psychology and Digital Business in Ingolstadt. My studies involve working with digital marketing strategies, media production, and understanding psychological processes within media use. So, I was on a quest to extend my skills and gain some valuable experience.
Creativity is a priority for me: I love taking photos, editing them, even cutting videos.
Moreover, since my childhood, I've been fascinated by immersing myself in the world of books and stories — whether reading them or writing my own. Therefore, I would like to make this passion part of my profession. The world of public relations called out to me because of the variety, I can deepen my knowledge from my studies, and can also get creative. For example, during brainstorming or content creation. It’s all about storytelling!
What's important to me is knowing that the work I do has purpose and contributes to positive change. That's why I started looking for agencies that prioritize meaningful, innovative, and sustainable clients. That's how I discovered Laika's website, and it was love at first sight. The team seemed very warm and friendly, their clients sparked my interest, and let’s not forget the four-pawed stars of the office: Taco and Zelda. I started working on my application letter and sent it right away, and could hardly believe it when I received an email from Ela a few hours later, inviting me for an interview.
Now, as I sit here, looking at the TV tower, writing these lines, I couldn't be happier.
In the very first week, I immediately felt at home despite my initial nervousness, thanks to the kind and warmhearted team who immediately embraced me. For the first two weeks, I had daily conversations with my onboarding buddies to ease my transition and clarify any possible queries. Apart from PR work, I also assist the internal marketing team. This combination ensures additional variety, and I really enjoy it! My days are filled with researching, writing guest articles, creating content for social media, participating in brainstorming sessions, and working on influencer-related tasks.
In my leisure time, I love exploring the diverse aspects of Berlin: visiting flea markets, strolling in parks, enjoying the nightlife, checking out museums, discovering new coffee spots, and so forth. I enjoy going to the office every day and I'm eager to see what tasks I'm assigned.
The time is already darting by like a shooting star, and I'm incredibly grateful to be a part of this astronomical crew!
