Intern Arne exits the lecture hall and enters the Laikaverse
Hello Planet Earth,
My name is Arne. Believe it or not, I am writing these lines from space. An internship on the Laika spaceship makes that possible. I would never have expected this, but as you know, things always turn out differently than you think. When I'm on the blue planet, and not flying through the comms cosmos on the Laika spaceship, I'm studying public relations in Hannover. If there's any time left over, I play table tennis and go watch soccer at the local stadium.
No time to wait
It all happened so fast. After three semesters of PR studies in Hannover, I had already reached the practical phase. I looked for PR agencies in Berlin and found Laika. At first glance, the spaceship, with its likeable crew, seemed like a place where anyone who had an appetite for PR and was willing to learn about the subject was welcome. It was a match! There were only seven days between my application, a call with Ela and the first team lunch, including an agreement in principle about the internship on site at the office. In that time, an interstellar spaceship can fly to Mars and back almost twice. But what else could you expect from the Space Dogs? The crew could be as fast as a spaceship.
Space is an indescribable place. When I started looking for an internship, I never dreamed of landing in the Laikaverse. However, I have never regretted choosing Laika as my internship site. Laika offers all kinds of opportunities. Interns also have the chance to learn all facets of public relations. Researching, writing bylines, press releases and pitches—all a part of an intern's daily routine on the spaceship. The door to the command center is always open! Wishes can be expressed at any time, so you can also help shape the course of your stay on the spaceship. Because my studies deal with public relations in general, it's particularly important for me to get to know as many areas of the agency's day-to-day work as possible. After one and a half months, I'm sure that the internship at Laika was exactly the right choice for this.
From theoretical lectures to the real world
My personal mission on the spaceship is, first and foremost, to gain practical experience. During the first weeks of my time at Laika, on a number of occasions, I have already been alerted to the big difference between theoretical lectures at university and the real world. Yet, I still have work to do. Routine is incredibly important. I would like to improve my communication skills. I am convinced that communication can be a key to a better world. In addition, the spaceship’s crew always sticks together. Laika understands: teamwork makes the dream work. And everyone is part of this team. Shortly after you enter the spaceship, you forget that you are "only" an intern. One thing is clear: No one gets lost in the depths of space. Everyone lands safely back on their home planet. A few more months will pass on the spaceship before I reach that point. Without knowing what time will bring, I am already sure: when I leave the Laika spaceship, I will be richer from the invaluable experience.
Thank you Laika!
