Boarding time for Jamie and Maja in the Laikaverse

New spacedogs Maja and Jamie interview each other

In early April, two new Space Dogs boarded the Laika spaceship. Introducing Maja and Jamie! Both starting on the same morning in early April, initial nerves were settled after being greeted by the ever-calming Assistant to the team Malte and meeting the rest of the lovely Space Crew. After their first month aboard the spaceship, they sat down to ask each other a couple of questions about their time so far, as well as introduce themselves to the Laikaverse!

Introducing Maja

Jamie: “How have you found life at Laika so far?”

Maja: "After searching for a workplace that would be the right fit for me, I compared many companies with each other. I was particularly interested in reviews from former employees, and Laika crew members spoke glowingly about their time on the spaceship. After studying the values of the Laikaverse, I decided to reach out and offer my support to the crew members of Laika.”

Jamie: What brought you into the Laikaverse?

Maja: "I knew that I would fit in with a crew like Laika, one that's full of down-to-earth and warm people. From the outside, it seemed that they shared my values, and it appeared that they really enjoyed working with each other, which was extremely important to me. A good crew is crucial when things are going wrong and also makes it so much fun when things are going right. In public relations, finding this type of environment is essential."

Jamie: What do you like to do back on earth?

Maja: "I love taking walks through nature and meditating. Whenever I get the chance, I also enjoy swimming, reading, practising yoga, and travelling as much as possible. When life is moving too fast, these are good tools to calm down and ground myself. I love embracing the culture of Berlin and I’m even involved with the pub choir (which I founded). Meeting my friends there, even though we are not the best singers in the world, and having fun with them whilst spending some time singing our favourite songs together makes me happy and gives me a lot of energy, so spending time with my family and friends is really important to me.

I always try to participate in the cultural landscape of Berlin, which is amazing, colorful and vast. That means I like to visit the theatre, museums and attend concerts, festivals, bars and clubs, embracing all the culture and amazing art Berlin offers us. One of my favourite things to do is to slip into the role of someone who is brand new to the city and pretend to discover it for the first time. It makes you view it in such a new way. I challenge myself with trips to areas and spots around Berlin that I don’t know very well yet. This is something that I really love about the city. It never gets boring.”

Jamie: “What have you learned so far at Laika, and what do you hope to achieve while you’re a part of the Laikaverse?”

Maja: “At Laika, everyday is a new adventure. The clients are quite different from each other and bring other new tasks. This is a really good way to challenge yourself every day with something new. Laika has taught me to come out of my comfort zone, embrace the unknown and be open for new missions. This teaches you new things about yourself. One day you could be an actor or content creator for a new Instagram Reel, the next you are responding to media inquiries, or you’re developing strategies and marketing concepts.

Introducing Jamie

Maja: “What brought you aboard the Laika Spaceship?”

Jamie: “Whilst looking for the perfect opportunity to pair with my degree, PR emerged as one of the most exciting ways to both nurture my pre-existing interests and passions, whilst also challenging myself and gaining a new set of skills and experience. After being recommended to check out Laika due to their strong links to my hometown of Belfast, I was obsessed. Not only were the tasks highlighted by Space Captain Michaela right up my street, but my fellow crew members seemed super friendly and like-minded.”

Maja: “What skills did you feel like you could bring to the Laika space crew?”

Jamie: "At my core, I have a passion for storytelling. Now, I have the opportunity to use that passion to assist exciting and innovative clients, and I couldn't ask for more. As my course continues, I hope to enhance my ability in content creation. While I believe there are many skills I can bring to the crew, being a PR newcomer, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire new skills and experience."

Maja: “What have you learned so far at Laika”

“Every day is different in the Laikaverse. I’ve enjoyed working on the Marketing team, as well as getting involved with clients tailored to my interests, as well as some clients which I had no prior knowledge of. The diverse nature of every day has been super enjoyable and refreshing.”

Maja: “What do you hope the future looks like for you aboard the Laika Space Ship?”

“With every single day looking different at Laika, it’s very exciting to think about what the future holds. When my time aboard the Space Ship has come to an end, I hope to have gained a ton of practical experience and have been involved in some real one-of-a-kind projects. I know I’ll be richer for the experience.”

Maja: “What are you passionate about outside of work?”

Jamie “My journey in content creation initially started when I was 15 and wanted a way to get into concerts for free, so I started music writing. I’m a bit of a music nerd and try to get involved in local scenes as much as possible. This is becoming more and more true of comedy as well, resulting in me even trying my first open mic last month (never again!). Finally, I’m a massive soccer fan. You can catch me in Manchester a couple of times a year, whether it’s for a music festival or a match!”

Jamie and Maja have both found their place in the vibrant Laikaverse. Drawn to the warm and supportive environment of the Laika crew, they have embarked on a journey filled with new challenges and exciting opportunities and are savoring every second of it!
